Our Services

Norfolk Lawn Care programs are designed and adapted accordingly to your lawn type and condition, giving your lawn just the right amount of nutrition it needs throughout various times of the year.

Fertiliser Application

All living things need nutrition. Grass plants absorb nutrients through their root system, therefore a good soil rich in nutrients is essential for a healthy lawn. Fertilisation is a lawn treatment that provides, or supplements, the natural nutrients needed to produce a healthy lawn.

Norfolk Lawn Care programs have been professionally designed to provide you with the expert help needed to achieve a healthy, attractive lawn, one to be proud of.

Weed Control

Even the very best kept lawns are susceptible to weeds. Weed control is achieved through the application of herbicides, which are absorbed into the weeds primarily through their leaves. The ideal time for weed control is when the weed is actively growing.

Thick turf helps prevent lawn weeds by giving them less room for a foothold. Mowing at the correct height can also help, as grass blades shade the soil from the warmth of the sun and prevent the seeds from germinating. Weed control is an ongoing process and it may take more than one application to eradicate certain weed types. As weed seeds are always falling on your lawn, blown in by the wind, deposited by animals and birds’ regular treatments are necessary.

We can also apply Weed Control to any hard-surfaces like your driveways, tennis-courts, gravelled areas and other instances where weeds might find themselves.

Moss Control

Moss can often be found in lawns where drainage is poor; the soil is compacted and low in nutrients. Treatment and moss removal by lawn scarification will be required in most instances.

Moss can be a perennial problem in many lawns. The only way to really eliminate moss from your lawn is to eliminate the conditions conducive to moss growth. Lawn aeration can be the key to effective moss control as it will improve drainage and alter the conditions that moss needs to develop.

Solid and Hollow Tine Aeration

Good soil is the foundation of a healthy lawn. Soil can become compacted from lots of use such as mowing, walking and other activities on the lawn. This can develop into a problem for any lawn but especially on heavy loam and clay soils.

If the ground is compacted it is harder for air and water to penetrate, which will result in poor grass growth, and discoloured growth or bare patches. As part of your Norfolk Lawn Care program the process of lawn aeration would be used to loosen the soil allowing nutrients, water and oxygen to penetrate, promoting deeper and stronger root growth.

A good lawn aeration program not only reduces soil compaction, controls grass thatch, helps control or eliminate moss, but can also thicken turf, reducing weeds and increasing your lawns stress tolerance.

Scarifying and Verti-Cutting

All grass forms a layer of dead plant material, known as thatch, between the grass blades and the soil. When grass thatch gets too thick it prevents water and nutrients from reaching the grass roots, and provides humid moist conditions ideal for fungal lawn diseases to take a hold.

Scarification can be used to help remove heavy grass thatch from the lawn. When the grass thatch is so thick that scarification is required, the grass roots are clearly not penetrating into the soil. Therefore the lawn should always be aerated following scarification to facilitate root penetration.

At Norfolk Lawn Care we carry out scarification at the beginning of the growing season (Spring or early Autumn) to allow the grass to recover from this rigorous process as fast as possible. Because of the stress that scarification places on the healthy grass plants it is not done routinely, but only when it is apparent that it will specifically resolve some difficulty or problem.

Norfolk Lawn Care will advise the best time for the scarification of your lawn if necessary.

Seeding, Topdressing and Drag-Matting...

After a heavy scarification, nearly all the thatch and dead moss will have been removed from the turf. This allows space for the current grass to push its roots further into the dressing, and to become a healthier sward of grass. Often, there are bare patches revealed where little to no grass has been able to grow in certain areas due to the density of the thatch or moss. To combat this, we lay down new seed and fertiliser, before laying quality topdressing. This topdressing provides coverage and somewhere for the new seeds to take root. The fertiliser then acts as a boost for the new seedlings to grow.

Finally, drag-matting is the process of 'dragging' a heavy chain link square across the fresh seed and topdressing to make sure that all the seeds have been incorporated thoroughly. At Norfolk Lawn Care we carry out scarification at the beginning of the growing season (Spring or early Autumn) to allow the grass to recover from this rigorous process as fast as possible. In certain instances we might even use germination netting to keep the new seeds warm, protect them from hungry animals and to hold some of the moisture from the air. The germination netting might not necessarily be used all over the lawn, but in strips over the areas that might need the most care.

We also ensure the usage of re-usable cloth netting, rather than one-time use plastic netting, to keep environmentally friendly.
